This Month's Topic:
Scripture Reference: Philippians 2:12-18
Discussion Objective:
Last week we discussed Christ like humility and exalting Him above everything else.
As Paul was writing this inspired scripture, what do you think crossed his mind when he said "but much more in my absence"?
12. Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,
13. for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
V12-13: What are some evidences that God has worked in you?
What does it mean to be "without blemish" for Christians, knowing that we can't be perfect? How does that balance with scripture and the world?
14. Do all things without grumbling or disputing,
15. that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,
16. holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.
V14-16: What does running in vain look like for you?
Context: a drink offering was literally poured out onto the ground with seemingly no purpose - would appear to be wasteful. What is Paul trying to say when he, as a human, is to be poured out as a drink offering?
17. Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.
18. Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me.
V17-18: Empty yourself yet rejoice with others?? Give some times when you have rejoiced with others in celebration of your discipleship journey.
How can you be a light in the world by pouring yourself out?
