This Month's Topic:
Scripture Reference: Matthew 9:35-38
Discussion Objective: We need to be praying for the Lord to send us as individuals out into the harvest vs praying for others to go.
I just began reading the New Testament through in 60 days starting Monday with the word "action" in mind for the Holy Spirit to use for my edification. It has amazed me at how my action Jesus took in His short time on earth. His focus was to do what He could do and "shake the dust off" of the things He couldn't control. He simply moved on when His message fell on deaf ears. This was in spite off being mocked and ignored.
Tentatively the plan is to move through Matthew 10 as a continuation of this discussion as we discuss evangelism and how it affects us as disciples.
Walk through the beginning of chapter 9 before reading the scripture.
35. And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.
V35: Why do you thing people chose to ignore the gospel message, even though they witnessed Jesus' miracles?
What did Jesus see in the crowds?
36. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
V36: He saw this in spite of being rejected.
Why do you think Jesus said to pray to the Lord instead of commanding them to go out themselves?
37. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;
38. therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
V37-38: Prayer closet purpose - change me vs change them
How do you need to change your prayers this week?
