We Won the Disciple's Lottery
Announcements
- Gumbo party, Sat. 5:30pm
- No group until DC in Jan 8th
This Month's Topic:
Scripture Reference: Philippians 4:4-13
Discussion Objective:
This month is about Small Group and this is the only time we will be discussing. This comes from one of my points to ponder from earlier this month. I posted an article on the website if you would like to read it. It does not have the scripture reference.
Set up why you thought about winning the disciple's lottery and how being a part of a small group is a large part of that experience.
Share the Sunday morning very clear prompting of the Holy Spirit and how He stopped me from doing what I was enjoying.
Why should we cultivate a spirit of rejoicing in the difficult times?
4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.
5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;
V4-5: How does the knowledge that "the Lord is at hand" impact our daily lives and choices?
What does it mean to have the peace of God "which surpasses all understanding"? Have you ever experienced this peace in your life?
6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
V6-7: How does expressing gratitude through thanksgiving change our perspective?
How does focusing our minds on things that are good and true help us find contentment in all circumstances?
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me — practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
10 I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity.
11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.
12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.
13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
V8-13: How does this connect to the concept of "winning the disciple's lottery" by finding growth through everyday life lessons, as discussed in our conversation?
All of us tend to come in contact with more non-believers during this season. Pray about how you can impact those around you, perhaps in a quiet way, and specifically pray for people the Holy Spirit prompts you to.
